Masao NAKAGAKI(中垣 雅雄)博士。先后毕业于日本信州大学和名古屋大学,留学美国加州大学伯克利分校。现为日本国立信州大学遗传学教授。一直致力于研究丝蛋白质的分子遗传与表达调控,在家蚕转蜘蛛丝基因工作方面成绩突出,2004年在世界上率先获得1-2%蜘蛛丝成份的转基因家蚕丝,2006年获得高达11%蜘蛛丝成份的家蚕丝,2007年开始产业化应用。蜘蛛丝是一种具有特殊品质的材料,迄今为止人类还无法生产出像它那样具有超级强度和弹性的化合物,英美日和中国等国都致力研究高效生产并利用蜘蛛丝作为医疗、航天和航空材料。
