Title A novel mechanism underlying the regulation of neurotransmitter receptor functions by the receptor trafficking

Yu Xian-Min (虞献民), Associate Professor

(Department of Biomedical Science, College of Medicine, Florida State University, USA)

Dr. Yu Xian-Min received Doctor Degree in University of Heidelberg, Germany. He worked at first in University of Toronto, Canada, now he is associate professor in Florida State University, USA and grant reviewer for scientific research foundation in USA.

His research is focused on the nociception in spinal cord and trigeminal system, especially the role of protein tyrosine kinase/phosphatase in the regulation of NMDA receptor for a long time. In this field he has published paper in journal “Science” and made important contribution to the understanding of the intracellular signaling in the regulation of NMDA receptor activity.

NMDA receptor is a subtype of glutamate-gated ion channel, which plays a key role in the regulation of synaptic plasticity expressed as long-term potentiation (LTP) and depression (LTD). In this lecture Dr. Yu will discuss how the dynamic endocytosis of NMDA receptors down-regulates the activity of remaining, non-internalized surface NMDA receptors and thereby inhibits NMDA receptor-mediated whole-cell and synaptic responses in the CNS.
