报告人简介:

Dr. Zhiyuan Gong, Professor of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore. He obtained Bachelor Degree at Ocean University of China in 1982, and PhD at McGill University, Montreal, Canada in 1987. From 1988 to 1995, he worked as Research Fellow at University of Toronto. Then he worked as Senior Lecturer from 1995 to 2000, promoted to Associate Professor in 2000, and promoted to Professor in 2007 at National University of Singapore.

Dr. Zhiyuan Gong developed several fluorescent transgenic zebrafish and these fish with trademark GloFishTM have become the first genetically modified pet commercially available in USA. In recent years, his research interest has also been extended to using the zebrafish model for environmental toxicology and water quality monitoring, including development of a variety of reporter transgenic zebrafish to indicate water pollution and to provide convenient bioassays. Another major area of his research in recent years is to use fish as disease models, in particular, the liver cancer models for understanding mechanisms and developing assays for drug screening. His main expertise is genetic modifications in agricultural, environmental and health science. So far Dr. Zhiyuan Gong has published 184 research papers and 31 reviews/book chapters on these topics. Dr. Gong serves as an editor for several journals and a reviewer for at least 67 journals and more than 20 grant agencies worldwide.
